Who I am
My name is Sonnie Berkowitz, and I’m shaping my path in scenic design with a focus on the parts of the process that build a world from the ground up: scenic painting, digital drafting, Photoshop work, and model making. Those are the places where I feel most at home, translating ideas into textures, colors, and structures an audience can feel before they even notice them. Alongside that work, I’ve also begun stepping into lighting, exploring how color, shadow, and timing can deepen the environment I create.
I’m drawn to design that works on both levels, the practical problem solving that keeps a show running, and the visual language that gives a story its atmosphere. Theatre design, for me, is equal parts intuition and craft. It's imagining something bold, then figuring out how to make it real.
I’m stepping forward into projects that challenge me artistically and technically, and I’m committed to growing my voice as a designer who can shape a world with intention and detail.
